Excr: Decaying Hopes and Dreams

The dust had long since settled on the various pews and alters of the massive cathedral that rested in the middle of the crater. Statues of the god to whom the church was meant to praise had been dismantled, smashed and their stony remains strewn about the cold, empty building. No one had used the dingy church for its intended purpose in hundreds of years. Religion had been abandoned shortly after the righteous had been ascended. After the wars that had torn apart the earth, people could no longer remember the deities that had been worshiped, nor cared to fabricate all knowing entities worth their time. Those that knew of the gods, the dancers, felt that their time was better spent blending in and avoiding contact with the celestial beings especially once the divine began sending their children out to hunt down those with a collective conscious.
Rainbow boots stepped lightly over the rubble carefully making their way to the center of the building. The rainbow girl scoffed at the destruction around her. Eyeing the broken statues, she was sure the church had once been dedicated to her mother. Underneath the decades of dirt and decay Hefru’s trained eye could still detect the once vibrant colors of the walls and ceiling.
“Churches of Joy were once such colorful places…” She sighed quietly, kicking at a piece of broken alter. Muttering about the barbaric ways of humans, the goddess picked her way towards the center.
